Being well known by the public alone doesn’t qualify one to be a celebrity unless there is some other thing interesting about them. For women celebrities in Kenya, money matters are a hinge most of them hung on. Mostly they focus on making their businesses the backbone of their identities.
HOW DID THEY START OFF?
Many of us just see the women celebrities in Kenya as made and have no idea where they started from. Most of these women started from little to nothing situations. While it is true some started from normal situations like day jobs, these women stars had it rough before getting where they are today.
Sometimes we spot our favorite women celebrities on the magazine covers and see them on TV’s and admire and sometimes dream the kind of life they live, it’s however so hard to believe that most of them came from less admirable lifestyles than even yours. Someone like Betty Bayo was a house help and this is one of those jobs that people despise.
Akothee’s story is another painful one. She dropped out of school at the age of 10 years and got married at around 14 years. Surprisingly, today she is one of the richest female celebrities in Kenya. Betty and Akothee’s stories are just among the many women who started from rough bottoms.

HOW DID THEY MAKE IT?
After starting from those low levels many of them have worked out their way up through different ways like in the entertainment industry and businesses. Here is how some do it:
VERA SIDIKA
Vera first came into the limelight when she was featured in the “You Guy” hit song by the Kenyan music trio P-unit in 2012. She’s been appearing in many other videos as a video vixen since then, and her incredible body figure has propelled her to popularity. Vera has been voted as Africa’s and East Africa’s top video vixen and mostly regarded as being a controversial celebrity.

LUPITA NYONG’O
Lupita is one of the Kenyan women celebrities with international recognition and is the daughter of Kenya’s well-known politician and current Kisumu County governor, Professor Anyang’ Nyong’o. Lupita’s role in the drama 12 Years a Slave in 2013 made her Kenya’s first to win an Academy Award as the best-supporting actress.
Since then, Lupita has starred in several films including The Jungle Book, Queen of Katwe, and Black Panther. She played a leading role in the television series Shuga.
