‘It is difficult for me to find a husband’: Kalekye Mumo narrates

Kalekye Mumo is one of the most accomplished and highly respectable media personalities in Kenya. She has been in the business for more than ten years dominating both radio and TV presenting and now the CEO KM Network. In an interview with The Wicked Edition by Dr. King’ori, she opened up about some of the stereotypes. Most of the discussion, however, revolved around relationships and why it was quite difficult for her to find a partner.

Unfortunately, success, power, wealth, and ambition are not the most attractive traits in a woman for this generation. It takes a specific kind of man who has proven to be difficult to find. ‘It is difficult for me to find a husband’: Kalekye Mumo narrates. From her conversations, a few reasons are apparent and can explain the reason why this is true.

Money and Success

Kalekye Mumo has been publicly an accomplished woman which can be intimidating for most men. In this generation, it seems like women are getting more empowerment while young men are slowly taking the backseat. In this case, there is a young lady with everything she needs at her table, and most men wondering if there is anything they could offer her. It can be difficult to find a husband when most men are intimidated by a woman’s success.

Public figure

Being in the media for over 15 years now and having thrived in it makes Kalekye’s life very public. Kalekye Mumo’s net worth, health, and character are speculated and publicized. The publicity makes it difficult to get to know her since men already know a lot about her, some of which aren’t true. Kalekye Mumo’s wealth has been speculated, calculate and publicized to make her look really wealthy which is sometimes not correct.

Stereotypes

In an interview with Dr. King’ori of The Wicked Edition, Kalekye said, “My mum told me once don’t ever bring a Luo or someone from Western. You’d rather be married by an Indian”. However, she stated that she had to overcome the stereotype and got to find out what was true and what wasn’t. On the other hand, the renowned media personality has struggled with younger men who assume that she can take care of them financially. Others think she is too wealthy to be approachable.

Settling for a man

It seems to be quite common for accomplished women to find it hard to get a man that “checks all the boxes”. For a polished woman like Kalekye, with ambitions and high standards, the presenter is not able to settle for just any available man. She is in her 40s and is specific about what she wants and what she doesn’t want. This makes it more difficult to settle.

“It is difficult for me to find a partner” is quite a common statement among ambitious strong women both in Kenya and globally. Kalekye Mumo has brought to our attention that for this generation, wealth, ambition, and a strong personality in a woman is quite intimidating for some men.
