The appointed chief administrative secretary in health Ministry, Dr. Mercy Mwangangi, born in machakos in 1986, is well known as a doctor with her soft-speaking. Currently,she also takes part during covid-19 briefing at absence of Dr. Mutahi Kagwe, the health department cabinet secretary and still secretary on Universal Health Coverage. She is also the most visible face in covid-19 briefing which are usually held at Afya House.
On her education, Mercy Mwangangi attended her high school level at Pangani Girls’ High School, Nairobi. She also persued Bachelor of medicine and Bachelor of surgery at University of Nairobi from where she graduated in 2009 with the degrees. She later went for a one-year internship at Machakos Level 5 where she used all her skills and knowledge to handle patients at theater rooms or bedrested ones.
Dr. Mercy Mwangangi also executed her leadership skills during her school times as she was a class team leader and in extracurricular activities. She further continued with her education at masters level in health and policy in Australia at University of Adelaide. She received Australian leadership skills advantaged by her potential skills.
Having done with her internship she was first posted in public health department, Meru. And this where her career life started from; Meru-South Tharaka-Nithi county upto date. Dr. Mercy Mwangangi held her ever first meeting with District Health Management Team as her first order business. Her journey to where she is right now did not come on a silver platter. Just when shaping of devolution, Dr. Mercy Mwangangi had to volunteer and for 18 months unpaid in health ministry.
On her career, she had three offers for her before being nominated by the president as healrh CAS-MoH. She not only worked at ministry of health kenya as ha head of Health Financing and Economics, but also she served health facilities in Meru as District Medical officer of health serving.
But nevertheless Dr. Mercy Mwangangi was still young and so she was still gaining experience on all sectors of health. Soon Dr. Mercy Mwangangi in National Health Insurance Fund, she was part of appraisal and performance evaluation team. This teams main goal was to present reports to senior managers. Dr. Mercy Mwangangi got a promotion to head of health financing decision just after working with the team for five consecutive months.
