SYLVIA MULINGE’S LIFE, BACKGROUND, AND RISE TO CORPORATE LADDER.

Sylvia Mulinge is a Kenyan confessed corporate executive. Since November 2018, she is as the Chief Client Officer at Safaricom, reporting to the chief officer of the Safaricom company. She is a go-getter, prospectively curious, entrepreneurial, and likes to stay on the sunny side of life with her family.

She was born in the Republic of Kenya attended St.Xaviers grade school in Nakuru and later joined Mary Mount Secondary School [1991 to 1994]. She graduated with honors from the University of Nairobi with a Bachelor of Science degree in Food Science and Technology.

Sylvia Mulinge career

She began her career in August 2004, at Unilever, the European client products conglomerate, operating as the Deputy Regional Brand Manager in the laundry division, based in South Africa. While 9 months in South Africa, she was transferred to the Republic of Kenya as the brand manager for Sunlight, a Unilever brand. She worked there for another 9 months, from May 2005 until January 2006.

In the second month of 2006, she was hired by Safaricom Limited as the manager responsible for the company pre-pay products, working in that capacity until November 2007 when she was promoted to the rank of Head of Retail, in this position she served until August 2009. For 21 months, from August 2009 until April 2011, she worked as the Head of Safaricom Business, responsible for all sales in the telecommunication company. In the fifth month of 2011, she was promoted to General Manager for Enterprise Business, working in that capacity for four years. In May 2015, she was promoted to the rank of Director of Consumer Business at Safaricom. At Safaricom, she rose through the ranks to become a member of the senior management team at the company.

Sylvia Mulinge is the Chief Client Officer, responsible for leading Safaricom’s obsession on Customer Experience as a key differentiator of its overall company strategy. She is in charge of Client Business, Brand Marketing, Brand Experience, Digital Transformation, Sales & Distribution, Operations, and Commercial Planning & Pricing.

She joined Safaricom in February 2006 from Unilever and rose from the role of Prepay Product manager to Head of Retail, Director of Enterprise Business before transitioning to manage the Consumer Business as Director of Consumer Business, a role she held for only 3 years before transitioning to her current role as Chief Client Officer. She has held various leadership roles for the last 8 years in her career.

Sylvia is an accredited executive coach and a Bachelor of Science degree alumnus from the University of Nairobi where she graduated with the highest distinction of First Class Honors.

A mentor and a leader in both her private and professional life, Sylvia has received several awards, which include her appointment to the Presidential Award Scheme, being named one of Kenya’s Top 40 under 40 Women for three consecutive years, and a Young Global Leader award recipient in the year 2015. She also sits on many Local Boards and is a Vice-Chairperson of the UN Women Stereotype Alliance.
