For the longest time, as a country, we have been struggling with the fact that we have leaders who are not keen on delivering. In a society where men think they are better than women, we must look at the battle between competent women and incompetent men for top positions.
The big difference between men and women leadership
Gone are the days when women used to sit back and wait to be led by men. Women are now coming out bolder and more assertive; many are now interested in leadership positions. As much as we have more men in top posts, it doesn’t guarantee them to deliver on the mandated roles.
When we look at the many shortcomings of the leaders we have, it is clear that we need to fix the way we view leadership. As a country, if we focused more on talent, we would be able and better leaders. In short, we will have more women leaders because they are more competent than men leaders.
- Performance
Women are good communicators, perform better in leadership roles, and have more integrity. Women leaders are also able to mentor others than their male counterparts. Men tend to be overconfident, and some have narcissistic characters proven to be toxic in the work environment.
- Corruption
As a country, we have lost the opportunity to have better leaders due to corruption and ethnicity. Many people will buy their way into leadership or get a position just because their names are politically correct. This type of crime has denied Kenyans a chance to have selfless leaders who could showcase their leadership skills to better the country.
- Access to leadership positions
Many men are generally uncomfortable with the idea of entirely being led by women. Men leaders continue to fight their female counterparts with lots of propaganda to ensure that they remain their subjects. The result has always been the county ending up with more incompetent male leaders.
- Laws
As a country, it is high time we enacted laws that will help hold any incompetent leader, be it a man or a woman, responsible for their misdeeds. If one is found guilty, they should not have any public office position.
Till the enforcement of laws, the battle between competent women and incompetent men for top positions will not end, and the country and its citizens will continue to suffer in the hands of the latter.
